This is a great little song here. Tells the story of him seeing Rita Hayworth in a bar,
and him wanting to get a lock of her hair.

The parts are pretty easy to figure out. Just listen to the song and youll be fine

i think jack wrote this song in the perspective of the fan the fan is really ticking the celebrity off and cant realize it but hes mad (or some other emotion) that the celebrity wont hang around with him and the times that it competely steers off of the tune is wat the celebrity is thinking of 'taking more of my time, more and more time' but ppl r probably right about that whole 'rite hayworth' thing but if wat i said was true, then i think the fan is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too clingy

I love the mixing on this song... especially when you're wearing headphones and you hear Jack's voice bouncing off your brain from different directions

Everyone in the world is guilty of the ambition Jack is singing about. People pretend they are not greedy but when given the chance to dance with their dreams they always want more. Enough is never enough. Some people can change and control their willpower, but they've overstepped their boundries at least once in their lives.

It never occured to me what this song was about until I read your opinions. I think you may be right about Jack letting out a little bit of frustration over the obsessive fans. Better than Eminem's attempts anyway. Hehe. But, then again, it just might be a fun song. Definately my favorite song on this entire album.

this song is about a true story. a fan asked rita hayworth for her autograph and she wrote "my heart is in my mouth" on the napkin. jack is a huge fan of orson welles (see the comments on "the union forever") and orson was married to rita hayworth.

I think there's more to this than a comment on how Jack White feels to be famous. It reminds me of some of Randy Newman's work, where a song is a glimpse inside the head of a (not always very attractive) character. Check out 'In Germany before the war' as an example. 'Take take take' is a peek into a stalker's mentality as they become more and more obsessed. I love the double meaning of 'And that was all that I needed' - to satisfy me, but also to get me going onto the next thing, and the next ...

This one was my first favourite... I loved that driving, repetitive line: "and that was all that I needed". In the beginning, the voice seems so content, so happy. Then seeing Rita was the taste that sent him into an spiral of wanting more. The two unison voices split as he becomes more greedy and more obsessed. Obviously he was doomed to be disappointed and I wonder if his life was worse for being able to see her in the flesh. It reminds me of Adam and Eve in the "seedy" garden of Eden.

OK I CAN ACTUALLY SAY WAT ITS ABOUT UNLIKE YOU FOOLS it has nothing 2 do with fans or celebrities unless ur talking about how greedy fans are. This song is very easy for me 2 say wat its about becuz the title gives it away so easily. This song is souly a moral telling that people in the world are 2 greedy and need 2 take take take what they need not everything they want. Its also trying 2 say that jack is mad at the paparazi for finding him in local bars or other places where hes just "not in the mood."Celebrities need there privacy too.Shep420 is preety much all the way correct but i just wanted 2 make it 100% clear what Jack is trying 2 thell the greedy people of the world. STOP BEIN SO DAMN GREEDY AND TAKE WHAT YOU NEED AND NOT EVERYTHING YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this song shows the fans point of view as well as the artists -he understands how poeple feel when they meet someone that inspires them, they all just want a bit of him("take, take, take") because it means so much to them when they meet him/some other artist - coming from the artists point of view because he is trying to tell fans that he does appreciate them very much, but he cant give himself up for them, he is only human afterall- "so she said to me “I need to go to sleep” And it seems so mean. It's almost as if she Did not appreciate How cool I was being." ....well maybe anyways

Yeah I agree the song is about the pushy media and how they're always asking for more and more always making it seem like thats all they want and when the celeb finally says no the media always sees it as the celeb being unfair or stuck-up hence the line "Well, she didn't even care That I was even there. What a horrible feeling" after she says goodnight.

It's a sarcastic message that Jack might be getting tired of his celebrity status, or at least the annoyances that it brings with it. bloodsugarsex is stupid. There's an interview with Jack and this is what he says.

Is it just about fans or life in general? How we think we will be fullfilled by getting one thing, but the satisfaction never is fullfilled.
