six years ago dan's step brother died in a car accident on dan's little brother's birthday. the song is about how dan took the last conversation they had for granted, how dan took him for granted, and how dan wonders were he will spend the rest of eternity.

awesome input koihoshi man, my parents are like that they think "o its nothing but hard rock" and i say "first of all the term is 'death metal' and its all about Jesus. once you memorize the lyrics like i have done its great. not thats its not good when you dont have the lyrics memorized. and it takes extreme talent to do what he does. i know you've all heard tool to scream, at zero, and the buzzing etc, where he goes way deep and keeps the volume up times 10 and its extremely hard to do that. you have to build up your voice over the years with practice and stuff. so yeah this song is about his desceased brother, its very sad his other brothr commited suicide thats what "to think of you is to treasure an absent memory" is about

Zao is amazing in concert with their new line-up. i actually don't miss Jesse at all, if anyone can believe that. Daniel is one of the best vocalists ever. i've tried and tried to replicate his snarl-growl style, and i can't for the life of me get even close to it. it's so amazing listening to him, because it almost sounds effortless, like he can just open his mouth and produce these guttural growls. and very few people come close to Dan as a lyricist. Ryan Clarke (Demon Hunter, Training For Utopia), Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel), Andrew Schwab (Project 86), Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth), and Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) are the only people i would consider on par with Daniel. ZaoSk8er4Jesus: i don't mean to offend, but this is where my anal music geek side comes in, and says that this Zao is technically Metalcore and Melodic Metalcore. but Death Metal is fine as well. XteeXjayX: i'm almost 100% sure he doesn't say it. generally if anything is in parentheses in the lyric book, Daniel doesn't say it in the song (ie, 5 Year Winter, Praise the War Machine, etc).
